A Legacy of Growing

The program in Agriculture is one of College of the Desert's first and oldest programs and is designed to serve both occupational and transfer students. Many courses primarily serve students who wish to enter an occupation after graduation. 

Courses are designed to provide practical experience, as well as academic background.
Students who wish to prepare for four-year colleges will find not only the necessary required transfer courses in English, science, mathematics, and related subjects available to them, but also departmental courses related to their majors, including:

  • Arborist
  • Environmental Horticulture
  • Landscape Design
  • Landscape and Irrigation Technician
  • Field Ranger
  • Pest Manager
  • Plant Science
  • Turfgrass Management


Degrees and
Certificates Offered

Students can receive degrees in programs ranging from: Agri-Business, Agriculture, Environmental Horticulture, Plant Science, Turfgrass Management
Certificates can be received in areas including: Environmental Horticulture, Arborist Technician, Landscape and Irrigation Technician, Pest Management Technician, Natural Resources/Desert Naturalist, Natural Resources/Field Ranger, Turfgrass Management

Program Infrastructure

Courses are designed and offered at the Agriculture Science Center on the main Palm Desert campus on a 4.5-acre working lab. 
The lab consists of classrooms, shaded grow areas, over 17,000 sq. ft. for student plots, outdoor turf research and putting green instruction areas, tractor and turf equipment repair, more than 9,000 sq. ft. of shadehouses and greenhouses, and over 400 different plant species used in instruction.
