Suddenly... you get a break! The Rocky Horror Show at COD
10/20/2014

The Rocky Horror Show, with music, lyrics and book by Richard O’Brien.

The season begins with one of the most mutated, time-warped phenomena in the history of show business, The Rocky Horror Show, with music, lyrics, and book by Richard O’Brien.  The rock musical is a campy tribute to the science fiction and “B” horror movies of the late 1940s through early 1970s.  It tells the story of a newly engaged couple finding their way into the home of a mad transvestite scientist in the midst of unveiling his newest creation.  With iconic musical numbers such as “The Time Warp” and “Sweet Transvestite”, The Rocky Horror Show isn’t your normal theatre going experience.

“It is an event,” says director Tres Dean.  “It is a tremendous, yet extremely exciting challenge to bring a show like this to life.  You are always taking a chance when staging ‘Rocky’ because it is such an iconic production and has cult-like following.  Fans know every word of dialogue and every single lyric. This show has its own script just for audience members so they can interact with the actors on stage.  This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the film, which makes this production even more special.  We’re placing a live rock band in the intimate environment of Theatre Too and literally surrounding the audience with the stage.  We will also be selling “prop bags” for audience members to use at opportune moments during the show.  Like I said, this isn’t just any show; this is an event!”

The talented and eclectic ensemble cast consists of Adam Genesta, Mike Hadley, Alden Dickey, Briana Taylor, Alisha Bates, April Mejia, Christine Michele, Jocelyn Johnson, Raz Segev, Ramon Martinez, Sergio Lopez, Courtney Pittsley, Leslie Benjamin, Brieana Holquin, Miranda Hane, Tamami Ono, Ronda Williams, Rebecca Rodriguez, and Johnny Bolth.  It will be directed by Tres Dean with Musical Direction by Scott Smith and Choreography by Shea New.  J.W. Layne is the Scenic & Properties Designer while Stuart Fable is the Lighting Designer.  The Sound Designer is Jack Ramoran and the Costume & Makeup Designer is Kailey Osgood-McAuliffe.

The production will be held in Theater Too, October 24th – November 2nd. There will be a special midnight performance on Halloween with a ROCKY BLOCK PARTY one and a half hours before the show!  THE BLOCK PARTY will include games, music, food, and everyone is encouraged to dress in costume! The show is recommended for mature audiences only! For tickets and reservations (required), please call 760-773-2565 or visit collegeofthedesert.edu/performingarts.
