A Drive to Learn Lands a Career at Desert European Motorcars
11/07/2013

Faustino Gutierrez is no stranger to hard work. During school breaks in his youth, he would join his siblings in the agricultural fields in Mecca to help provide for the family. So when his parents encouraged him to be the first in his family to go to college, he decided to pursue higher education close to home at College of the Desert (COD).

Faustino Gutierrez, a College of the Desert Automotive Program graduate (2012) is currently a Land Rover Rancho Mirage Entry Technician.

After being honored with multiple scholarships, Faustino followed the advice of friends who urged him to develop a career in something he was passionate about by enrolling in the automotive program at the College. His drive to learn coupled with his love of automobiles helped him to excel.

Faculty members were instrumental in helping Faustino land a job at Desert European Motorcars in Rancho Mirage. He started off job shadowing with a master technician at the Land Rover dealership and then worked his way through the certification levels to become a Certified Land Rover Automotive Service Technician. He’s now in line for the master technician certification.

Faustino’s automotive career is running smoothly following his education and training experience at College of the Desert. He credits the College for setting him on the right path and preparing him for the real world.

“I’ve had so much support from faculty, friends, parents and my employer,” explains Faustino. “I am grateful to the College for opening the door to a great job and future career, which will provide for a better life for me and my family.”
