Numbers Add Up for Banker Whose Financial Career Path Started at College of the Desert

When Heather Enos graduated from Palm Desert High School,  going away to college wasn’t a financial reality for her. She explored her options at College of the Desert (COD), and was pleased to discover the flexibility of class schedules allowed her to work full-time while fostering her future career path, as well.

A class in business law at the College got Heather thinking about developing a career in business. Then, after a calculus professor challenged her to apply herself more than ever, she became profoundly aware of how she would need to prepare for the real world expectations she would be facing after college.

“The quality of the academic preparation and the unwavering faculty support, in combination with the scholarships I received from the College of the Desert Foundation, made all the difference,” Heather says. “When someone else believes in you, it helps you believe in yourself.”

Heather’s hard work and dedication while at College of the Desert opened the door for her to further her education at Pepperdine University – a school she never imagined she would be able to get into. Upon earning an Associate Degree in Business Administration in 2009, she transferred to Pepperdine and graduated with a BS in Business Administration two years later.

In 2012, Heather joined FirstBank as a Banking Officer at the Washington and 42nd Avenue Palm Desert branch. Heather adds, enthusiastically, “Banking suits me. I feel fortunate to have landed a job that I love, in large part because of the great start I got here at our community college.”

The workforce of the Coachella Valley depends on our support, helping futures take flight through educational opportunities in our community – right here at College of the Desert. Last year over 600 students received scholarships from the Foundation. Hundreds more need our help with books, transportation, childcare and more.

Everywhere you look in our community, COD and the Foundation have helped change lives for the better through higher education. You’ll find many ways you can change lives and our community for the better here on our site and in our Guide to Giving section. Or, call us at the Foundation, 760-773-2561.
