Founding Member
The Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians is proud to be a Founding Member of the President’s Business Circle at the College of the Desert Foundation. As a committed partner in education and community development, the Tribe believes in the power of collaboration to strengthen the Coachella Valley and create lasting opportunities for future generations.
“Our Tribe has always believed in building a life rooted in community, resilience, and purpose. As Founding Members of the President’s Business Circle, we see education as a powerful tool for creating long-term opportunities for the entire Coachella Valley. This partnership reflects the same values my mother instilled in us. If we want something better for our people and our land, we must build it ourselves. By investing in education, sustainability, and the next generation, we’re not only honoring our ancestors, we’re shaping a future where our shared community thrives,” states Chairperson Amanda Augustine, Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians.
About Augustine Casino: Augustine Casino was the first modern day business enterprise of the Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians when it opened in 2002. A true locals’ treasure known for friendly and prompt service, Augustine Casino employs over 300 local residents, spurs local wages and enhances the community’s socioeconomic health. Most strikingly, nearly 25% of its team have been with the casino for over ten years, demonstrating deep-rooted loyalty and stability. Revenue from the casino has funded broader initiatives aimed at sustainability and environmental stewardship including Temalpakh Farm (an organic farm and market) and a three-megawatt solar field. Augustine Casino is much more than a gaming venue—it’s a remarkable testament to perseverance, tribal sovereignty, and a vision for a thriving, sustainable future. Visit Augustine Casino
About Temalpakh Farm: Temalpakh Farm, meaning “from the earth” in Cahuilla, began as a vision of former Tribal Chairperson Mary Ann Martin. The organic farm and market officially opened to the public in January of 2022. Today, Temalpakh Farm spans 50 acres and produces a variety of USDA-certified organic crops using sustainable, pesticide-free practices. Powered by a three-megawatt solar field and sustained by groundwater, the farm operates as a self-sufficient ecosystem. The Temalpakh Market offers fresh produce, smoothies, and cultural goods, while the on-site Education Center hosts tours and programs focused on tribal history, environmental stewardship, and organic farming. More than an agricultural venture, Temalpakh Farm is a living symbol of the Augustine Tribe’s commitment to cultural preservation, environmental respect, and sustainable sovereignty.
